Honda BTCC Race Team
The racing Civic is built to S2000 regulations with a Next Generation Touring Car (NGTC) turbo-assisted engine and reaches top speeds of 150mph. Also included in the Honda Civic are composite materials used in critical areas of the car such as the front bumper, front splitter and the flat floor which sits below the engine bay and extends beneath the driver.
"Our partnership with Amber Composites represents the beginning of a long-term plan to use composite technology in a wide range of parts. Amber's involvement as our sole supplier of composite materials brings a number of important advantages to the programme including technical support and advice, speed and volume of supply, and most importantly the quality of the product. We look forward to working closely with Amber both now and in the future as we implement a number of important developments on the car"
- Peter Crolla, Team Manager - Team Dynamics Motorsport Ltd
Requirements
- Amber Composites' (low temp cure) Multipreg E650 - Glass 390gsm 2x2Twill, Carbon 205gsm 2x2Twill and 170gsm Kevlar 4HS were used to manufacture the front bumper and splitter employing a vacuum only manufacturing process.
- Amber Composites' (mid temp cure) Multipreg E722 - Glass 300gsm 8HS & 600gsm PW were autoclave processed to manufacture the flat floor.
- Rohacell 71 IG-F 2500x 1250mm was used as the core material in the front splitter to provide the required stiffness at a low weight.
Amber Solution
Team Dynamics, who prepare the car for racing, used Amber's prepreg technology to significantly reduce weight in these critical areas.
