The RNLI

The RNLI saves lives by changing attitudes and behaviour among people who use the sea regularly. Last year RNLI lifeboats rescued more than 8,000 people, an average of 22 people per day.
This case study is for the development of an equipment pod for the latest version of the RNLI D Class Inshore Lifeboat.

Requirements
  • Material suitable for laminating molded components and bonding to honeycomb for the production of flat sandwich panels that would be cut and folded to form the complex shape of the finished assembly
  • Quick response times for delivery of relatively small quantities of materials for prototyping and pre-production models
  • Sustained supplies of consistently high-quality material over multiple years during production
  • Excellent technical service

Amber Solution
  • Selected the E720 epoxy resin system at 45% resin content with the 300gsm 8HS glass cloth. This was used to great effect, achieving well consolidated molded components with between 2 to 12 plies of material.
